Cursor X Subscription vs legacy Pro

New Cursor customers now sign up through The X Subscription, which bundles Cursor with Grok and X. If you're on a legacy plan, Cursor says you can keep it. Here's what actually differs, from Cursor's legacy plans documentation and pricing page, checked 2026-10-15.

The plans

Cursor maps legacy Pro to Premium ($30), Pro+ to Super ($100) and Ultra to Ultra ($200), and says "comparable means the closest tier, not an identical one."

What's different

  • Reset cycle: legacy plans have two monthly pools (Cursor Models and Other Models); The X Subscription has one weekly pool shared with Grok.
  • Third-party models (Claude, GPT, Gemini): included through the Other Models pool on legacy Pro, Pro+ and Ultra. On The X Subscription they're not included; on Premium and above they're billed at API list price from prepaid credit. Plus has no third-party models.
  • Cursor models: Cursor says each X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with Cursor models as the legacy plan it replaces.
  • Overage: legacy uses on-demand usage billed in arrears; The X Subscription uses prepaid top-ups.
  • Billing: legacy is managed at cursor.com; The X Subscription at grok.com.

Should you switch?

Cursor says switching is optional and permanent. The deciding question is which models you use. If your daily driver is Grok or Composer, the new plans give more included usage for those. If you rely on Claude or GPT inside Cursor, legacy plans still include an allowance for them, while The X Subscription bills them at API price from the first request. Pool sizes in absolute terms are unknown: Cursor publishes multipliers (4x, 15x, 50x Plus) but not the size of the base pool.
